Three Things, Ten Jobs: Sony Pictures, Riot Games, Froghouse
Attention recruits! Some of our readers might remember that I started CartoonRecruit.com a year ago in August. My goal was to make an ad-free job directory that collected opportunities from across the animation industry. Since last year we shared a grand total of 3184 jobs!
With the anniversary approaching, I really wanted to get the blog going again. With the number of productions we feature each day, it’s too easy for interesting job opportunities to get overlooked. My hope is that this new blog format, which I’m calling “Three Things, Ten Jobs,” will help me reflect on each week and share interesting links without distracting from everything else I’d like to accomplish on a weekend.
Three Things:
Les Bêtes premieres on Vimeo
Directed by Michael Granberry, Les Bêtes is an 11-minute stop motion film that first premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and is now available to stream on Vimeo. Come for the freaky rabbit with Krampus-vibes and stay for commentary about exploitation and the consumption of art!
Spice Up Your Life
In an interview with AnimeEgo, Manga Video’s Laurence Guinness (producer of english-language dubs for Perfect Blue and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro) shared concept art from a pitched Spice Girls anime. The concept art was made by artists at Production I.G (which would go on to produce Ghost in the Shell), depicting the Spice Girls wielding rifles and fleeing from predatory dinosaurs. Perhaps it wasn’t a fit with their 90s brand identity? Spotted on Aftermath.
Free Character Design Workshop
MCAD’s Lafe Smith is hosting a free character design workshop from July 28 to August 18. The series is offered as part of Wacom’s Creativity Camp and is pitched to a general audience interested in learning the principles of character design, covering gesture drawing, shape language, and assembling a model sheet. Attendees can register on Creativity Camp’s website.
