Role Call Roundup: Resources for Artists in LA
CartoonRecruit.com’s weekly Role Call Roundup is where I usually reflect on job posts from the past week and take a closer look at hiring trends across the animation industry.
There are no words for what's happened this past week. Due to the many communities displaced by wildfires in Los Angeles, I wanted to share whatever resources I could find.
Mutual Aid Los Angeles Network’s Fire & Wind Storm Resources
The Mutual Aid Los Angeles Network is an organization run by a small team of volunteers, founded during the COVID pandemic to distribute food, hygiene kits and art supplies to local residents in need. MALAN collected a list of resources (also viewable as a map) for residents displaced by the LA wildfire and windstorm. Resources on the list include shelters, donation drives, animal boarding, prepared meals, and access to wifi and charging.
IATSE Local 839’s disaster relief resources
Given that many Animation Guild members have been directly affected by the LA County wildfires, The Animation Guild has collected a list of resources. The list includes applications for financial relief from IATSE and Union Plus, the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health plan to replace prescription glasses and medication, and a relief shelter hosted by IATSE Local 80.
If you are in a position to provide financial assistance directly, Crystal Kan (assistant director on Star Trek: Lower Decks) compiled a list of GoFundMe campaigns belonging to evacuated industry artists.
LA Hotels providing shelter to residents
The Hotel Association of Los Angeles is maintaining a list of hotels providing shelter and supplies at discounted rates to Los Angeles residents displaced by wildfires. Many of the hotels are accommodating guests with pets and are also donating bedding and personal care items to temporary shelters.
LA County restaurants offer food to evacuees and first responders
The Los Angeles Times collected a list of restaurants in the LA County which provide food and relief for fire evacuees and first responders. The Times provided a map across the County with 47 restaurants offering free or discounted food.
