Ho ho ho, recruits! And welcome to CartoonRecruit.com’s weekly Role Call Roundup. On the main page, I monitor and curate links to job posts (updated daily) from an ever-expanding list of animation studios. This blog is where I reflect on job posts from the past week and take a closer look at hiring trends across the animation industry.
I honestly expected job posts to slow down at the end of December, but we collected 72 listings from December 15th to the 21st. This week’s roundup highlights job opportunities at Boulder Media in Dublin, Outpost VFX in London and Montreal as well as Sony Pictures Animation in Culver City. Founded in 2000 by Robert Cullen, Boulder Media is an Irish Animation studio which was acquired by Princess Pictures in 2022. The studio is best known for providing animation services on 2D productions, like DC Super Hero Girls, Wander Over Yonder and The Amazing World of Gumball. Boulder Media is currently hiring for five roles for 2D animation, with expressions of interest open for four additional roles.

Outpost VFX was founded in 2013 by Duncan McWilliam, who previously worked as a VFX artist and supervisor at The Moving Picture Company in the UK. The studio, with locations in Bournemouth, Montreal, London and Mumbai, is best known for their VFX work on high budget TV series and blockbuster movies, including Bridgerton, The Wheel of Time and Captain America: Brave New World. The studio is currently hiring five roles in Montreal, with six expressions of interest open in London.

Sony Pictures Animation was founded in 2002, following the success of Sony Pictures Imageworks’ contributions to Stuart Little 2 (as well as an ill-fated attempt to sell the VFX studio). The studio has since become an early and influential leader in stylized 3D animation, with productions like Hotel Transylvania, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
